Francis sat alone in the palace gardens, looking out at his workers. The flowers were blooming in an array of colour, shimmering underneath the sunlight. All was quiet until he heard the sound of footsteps coming up behind him. Smirking, the queen glanced behind him and looked at his uninvited visitor. “And how did you get passed my guards?” He asked the other, “You’re lucky I’m in a good mood today.”
Alfred felt vulnerable, exposed, and weak. They said that weapons had to be left at the door, and if he wanted to get anywhere in the palace he had to oblige. Yet the Ace was sure to keep the letter close in his hand until he approached the Queen of Diamonds. “They invited me in once they say this,” he answered and held out the notice. “My Queen wanted to be sure the palace was safe for her arrival.”
